Within a few weeks we will be bringing in tables, chairs, shelving, potter's wheels, our brand new kiln, and lots of clay.
For now though, we are planning, and imagining; have a look at these shots, taken this afternoon. We hope you agree that this building is going to make a great pottery studio; the light is amazing. What looks quite small from the outside, goes back a long way.
We have a plan: you will come in through the front door to a hand-building area. An individual table and chair for each potter, arranged in various ways depending on the class, but mostly pushed together to look and feel like one big bench.
The glass block wall, part way down will be coming out, as well as the low divider, to make one single studio space. We love those glass blocks though! How shall we use them? Answers on a postcard.
The potter's wheels will be against the wall beyond the hand building tables, with plenty of shelving around them. Wedging table, glazing area, and everything else you expect will fit in, along with a kettle and a fridge.
What you can't see in these pictures is the huge metal shed in the 'garden.' This will house the kiln, drying shelves, materials and resources.
There will be enough outside space for sitting, and even working in fine weather. Check out that wide side access for clay deliveries and extra storage. This afternoon I was able to park on the forecourt. There are other options though; and we will be very well connected by public transport.
Our current estimate is that we will have keys by mid November, and be able to start taking bookings soon after that, for new year classes in January. The photos we are really looking forward to taking and sharing are of people potting; making pots and making friends!
